Aide de Camp to Napoleon - by Philippe-Paul de Segur
Załącznik:
Aide de Camp to Napoleon - Philippe-Paul de Segur.jpg

The colorful career of a member of Napoleon's staff.
This is the autobiography of the man who became Count Philippe de Segur, general of Division, Peer of France. Born in 1780, Segur was a child of the revolution. He was a private in 1800, an aide de camp to Napoleon and a general by 1812. This is the story of the Revolution, Consulate and First Empire of France. Segur saw campaigns throughout the epoch and the titles of the chapters of his memoir give clear indications as to the colour of its detail. Here are Austerlitz, Ulm, Vienna, Jena, Berlin and the war in the Iberian Peninsula. For those who are interested in the Napoleonic Wars this book, written by one who was intimate with the strategies and machinations of the Emperor, will be an essential addition to their library.

The Eagle's Last Triumph: Napoleon's Victory at Ligny, June 1815 - by Andrew Uffindell
Załącznik:
eagles-last-triumph-napoleons-victory-at-ligny-june-1815.jpg

Napoleon won his final victory on 16 June, 1815 at Ligny, shortly before suffering a crushing defeat at Waterloo. This book offers a comprehensive examination of this aspect of the 1815 campaign. Putting the battle at Ligny into perspective, it also provides a clear account of the action, including much eye-witness testimony.

Russia against Napoleon - by Dominic Lieven
Załącznik:
Russia against Napoleon - by Dominic Lieven.jpg

In the summer of 1812 Napoleon, the master of Europe, marched into Russia with the largest army ever assembled, confident that he would sweep everything before him. Yet less than two years later his empire lay in ruins, and Russia had triumphed. This is the first history to explore in depth Russia's crucial role in the Napoleonic Wars, re-creating the epic battle between two empires as never before. Dominic Lieven writes with great panache and insight to describe from the Russians' viewpoint how they went from retreat, defeat and the burning of Moscow to becoming the new liberators of Europe; the consequences of which could not have been more important. Ultimately this book shows, memorably and brilliantly, Russia embarking on its strange, central role in Europe's existence, as both threat and protector - a role that continues, in all its complexity, into our own lifetimes.

Napoleon's Letters to Josephine - by Henry Foljambe Hall
Załącznik:
's Letters to Josephine - by Henry Foljambe Hall.jpg

Product Description The intimate correspondence of history
What needs to be said about the relationship between Napoleon and Josephine that has not become legend? He was a humble Corsican who rose meteorically through the ranks of the armies of Revolutionary France to be become First Consul and then Emperor of the First Empire. She was his lover from the earliest days, swept up in his rising fortunes until she became Empress by his side, only to be cast away in favour of an Austrian princess who could give the Emperor an heir. Yet theirs was never a straightforward or easy relationship. Both took lovers and despite his own infidelities and tolerance, Napoleon felt extreme pangs of jealousy and wrote of them plainly in his correspondence. Napoleon reveals himself to be a man of raging passions both for Josephine and the creation of an Empire worthy of his genius. As one would expect, these letters are barely confined to pillow talk. Here was a soldier at the head of a conquering army that set Europe ablaze. Much of the progress of his campaigns is reported in the most personal detail. Here are those who surrounded the Emperor most closely-the soldiers, the court and the ever troublesome family. Here are the great events of the age from great campaigns, battles and fallen monarchs to assassination attempts. Here are the highs and the lows of two incredible turbulent lives. Essential reading for those fascinated by the Napoleonic age and who wish to listen to the immediate thoughts of the great man to his lover across time on all the issues that touched him closest.

The British Army Against Napoleon - by Robert Burnham & Ron Mcguigan
Załącznik:
british-army-against-napoleon-facts-lists-and-trivia-1805-1815.jpg

This book is intended to be a fact book, containing information researchers and enthusiasts alike will find invaluable. The year 1805 was chosen to begin the study as it was the year that Britain went on the offensive against its enemies. Some of the facts stand alone - such as the list of regimental colonels - while other information is critical for understanding why events unfolded as they did. There are tables that list all the recipients of the honours and awards issued, casualties in action and disease, seniority of officers of the numerous expeditions and campaigns.

Once There Were Titans: Napoleon's Generals and Their Battles, 1800-1815 - by Kevin F. Kiley
Załącznik:
's Generals and Their Battles, 1800-1815.jpg

This is a masterly study of generalship in Napoleon's Grande Armee. Napoleon arguably had the greatest collection of military talent to ever serve one man working for him during the period 1800-15. The role of the Marshals of the Empire has been covered many times, and due credit is also given to them here; however, for the first time Kevin Kiley also examines in depth the contribution of the generals who never made that rank. Fifty-two general officers are examined using the battles they fought to illustrate just how valuable they were. From Marengo in 1800 to Ligny in 1815, both French victories and defeats are studied in meticulous detail, each chapter covering a battle fought and the generals who commanded them. Diverse source material has been consulted in the preparation of this volume, including after-action reports, memoirs and correspondence from officers including Senarmont, Eble, Drouot, Teste, Marmont, and Davout, as well as from lesser-known characters such as the artillerymen Boulart and Noel, and the Polish cavalryman Niegolewski, who led the final dash up the pass of Somosierra.
Furthermore, those closest to Napoleon such as Fain and Marchand give their piece and provide invaluable information. Taken individually, this material paints a vivid picture of the Grande Armee and those who led it into fire. Taken as a whole, it provides an invaluable source and tells the story of the officers without whom Napoleon could never have achieved as much.

Napoleon Bonaparte's First Campaign Italy 1796-97 - by Herbert H. Sargent
Załącznik:
napoleon-bonapartes-first-campaign-italy-1796-97.jpg

An expert evaluation of the first battles of the Napoleonic epoch Sargent was a superb military historian and students will discover his analysis of the campaign of Marengo-published by Leonaur-is an insightful perspective of the military genius who would one day crown himself emperor of the French. In this companion piece Sargent once again turns his attention to the early phases of Napoleon's career, at the time when he was General Bonaparte, commanding his revolutionary forces in Italy at the close of the eighteenth century. As usual Sargent's text is concisely delivered providing students with an excellent insight into the essentials of the campaign and the great man's strategic genius.

Napoleon's Wars an International History - by Charles Esdaile
Załącznik:
napoleons-wars-an-international-history-1803-1815.jpg

Noted historian Esdaile argues that the chief motivating factor for Napoleon was his insatiable desire for fame. More than a myth busting portrait of Napoleon, however, this volume offers a panoramic view of the armed conflicts that spread so quickly out of revolutionary France...
