1784 October 28 - Captain in Royal-Etranger cavalry regiment
1785 - Marries Cecile Le Doulcet de Pontecoulant
1787 January 27 - Invalided out of army and supports the Revolution
1791 December 18 - Recalled as lieutenant-colonel in 12th chasseur a cheval
1793 August-September - Defends Nantes against Charette; wounded at Sorinieres
1793 September 30 - Suspended as member of the nobility
1794 November 29 - Reinstated and confirmed as general de division
1795-1796 - Served under Hoche in Vendee, Britanny, and expedition to Ireland
1797 - In Italy; persuaded King of Sardinia to abdicate; fought at Novi and captured at Pasturana
1800 - December 3 - Commanded an infantry division at Hohenlinden
1801 September 23 - Inspector general of the cavalry
1805 - Commanded infantry division in Marmont's II Corps
1806 September-October - Commanded 2nd Dragoon Division in pursuit after Jena-Auerstadt
1807 February 8 - Commanded dragoons at Eylau, where wounded
1807 June 14 - Commanded cavalry at Friedland
1808 May 2 - As governor of Madrid puts down rising in that city
1809 April-May - Commanded dragoons under Prince Eugene in Italy
1809 July 6 - Covered right wing of Davout's corps at Wagram
1809 July 31 - Appointed colonel-general of chasseurs vice Marmont
1812 January - Appointed to command 3rd Reserve Cavalry Corps
1812 November - Command bataillon sacre in retreat from Moscow
1813 January - Retired to his estates as no longer physically fit
1813 December - Returned to duty as commander of the cavalry
1814 February-March - Fought at Brienne, Vauchamps, Troyes and Craonne
1814 July - Handed over colonel-general of chasseur to duke of Berry, but made inspector general of the chasseurs and lancers by Louis XVIII
1815 March - Rallied to Napoleon and put down royalist rising in Midi, capturing the Duke of Angouleme
1815 April 15 - Appointed Marechal d'Empire (26th in seniority)
1815 June 16 - Commanded right of l'Armee du Nord; at Ligny
1815 June 17 - Ordered to pursue retreating Prussians
1815 June 18 - Fought at Wavre against Prussian 3rd Corps
1815 June 19 - Breaks off action and slips away via Narmur
1815 June 24 - Proscribed; settles in USA. (Philadelphia)
1819 November - Amnestied and given rank of lieutenant genera
l 1820 June 20 - Returned to France and placed on retired list
1827 - His wife having died, marries Fanny Hua, (aged 25)
1831 November 19 - Restored to rank of marshal of France
1847 May 29 - Died while returning from a visit to Italy

Grouchy "Marshal Grouchy, with 34000 men and 108 cannon, solved the apparently undiscoverable secret by being, on the morning of the 18th [June 1815], neither on the battlefield of Mont St.Jean nor on that at Wavre.... His conduct was as unforeseeable as if his army, on the march, had undergone an earthquake and been swallowed up".
